Semi-sinking/drifting version. This doesn't float for the fish which don't
come from under the bubbles and current. As it is hard to see the fly,
you can add an indicator to the leader to detect a strike.
One of the first flies we use in the upper section of the rivers in the
mountain from June to Sep. In Hokkaido the number of the fish is way larger
than that in the rest. Often we catch 10-20 fish an hour inc. small fish.
Hackle flies won't survive after bite after bite. Under such circumstance,
foam flies are the strong weapon as we don't need to change flies. These
flies float and stay visible for a long time. We use 1-3x tippet in headwaters.
Fish are not leader shy and also you tend to snag your fly in the overhanging
trees, rocks etc in those bushy forest. With a 4x tippet, you will lose
flies easily. There is no benefit to use a finer tippet in Hokkaido headwaters.
