We love prawn-ish flies for some reason. No specific reasons but steelhead matches crustacean flies and bug flies rather than baitfish imitations. Just preference, though. This type of fly is seldom used for pink salmon, sockeye salmon or chum salmon.
Easy on maintenance, stable in balance, durable so we love to use these
flies.
This fly has no internal weight so you can use it from surface fishing
on a greased line down to wet fishing on a sinking line. But it is not
suitable for cold water fishing or deep water fishing in a high water.
Under those situations, flies with extra weights such as cone head, dumbbell
eyes and etc.

エビっぽいシルエットのフライが好きです。理由はないですが、なんとなく、スティールヘッドには小魚フライよりも甲殻類や虫の方が似合う気がするからです。ピンクサーモンやチャムサーモンにはあまり使いません。
この手のフライはクイル・ウイングのトラッドフライに比べてメインテナンスが楽で、姿勢も安定、壊れづらいと良い点が多く、私は好きです。
このフライはノーウエイトですので、グリースド・ラインの表層の釣りからシンキング・ラインでの沈める釣りまで対応しますが、低水温期、増水期のウンと沈める釣りには適していません。そのような釣りではアイなどのウエイトを追加したフライを多用します。
北米のスティールヘッドの釣りが初めてなどで、情報もなく、お困りの方、ご相談ください。 |
